Before & after

Same prompt, same agent — the only difference is the skill.

PromptShould we grow faster?
Beforegeneric AI agent
That depends on several factors. Here are some things to consider:

**Arguments for growing faster:**
- Capturing market share before competitors
- Network effects compound with scale
- Easier to raise at higher growth rates

**Arguments for growing more deliberately:**
- Premature scaling is a leading cause of startup failure
- Unit economics should work before you pour fuel on the fire
- Culture and quality can suffer under rapid growth

**Key questions**: Is your retention strong? Are your unit economics positive? Do you have product-market fit?

Generally, if retention is strong and CAC payback is under 12 months, growing faster makes sense.

What's driving the question?
Afterwith Office Hours
That question can't be answered as asked. Six questions first — answer
them and the growth question usually answers itself.

1. PROBLEM
What specific problem, for whom, and how are they solving it today?
"Faster" is meaningless until this is one sentence, not a category.

2. CUSTOMER
Name three real customers who paid in the last 90 days. Not
segments — names. What did all three have in common the week they
   bought?

3. DISTRIBUTION
Where did your last 10 customers come from, and which of those
channels can do 10× without your personal involvement? If the honest
answer is "founder network," growing faster means finding a channel,
   not spending more.

4. DEFENSIBILITY
If a funded competitor copied you exactly next quarter, what would
still be true about you in 12 months? "Execution" is not an answer.

5. CAPITAL
Months of runway. What does the next raise require you to prove, and
does growing faster get you there or just burn the runway you'd need
   to prove it?

6. FOUNDER FIT
Why you, and are you still the right person to run the version of
   this company that's 3× bigger?

THE PATTERN TO WATCH FOR
Most founders asking "should we grow faster" have a solid #1 and #2 and a
weak #3. That's not a growth question, it's a distribution question, and
pouring money into a channel that doesn't scale is the most common way
this ends badly.

Answer these and I'll draft the strategy brief.
