Waitlist Launch Plan: Signup Math to Cart Close
Turns a waitlist into sales: signup targets from your revenue goal, one honest scarcity lever, early-access window, and cart emails.
Before & after
Same prompt, same agent — the only difference is the skill.
A waitlist can build anticipation before your launch. Here's a plan: **Weeks 1-2**: Set up the waitlist landing page and start collecting signups. Share on your channels. **Weeks 3-4**: Keep promoting. Share teasers and behind-the-scenes content. Consider a referral incentive where people move up the list for referrals. **Weeks 5-6**: Build urgency toward launch. Give early access to the top of the list. **Tips**: - Offer an incentive to join (early access, discount, bonus) - Use a referral mechanic to drive viral growth - Keep the list warm with regular updates - Give waitlist members a reason to feel special Want help with the landing page copy?
WAITLIST LAUNCH — 6 weeks The mistake is treating a waitlist as a signup form. It's a 6-week conversion sequence where the list gets warmer, not just longer. Hype, scarcity, and conversion beats, staged: WEEK 1 — HYPE (open the loop) Landing page live. The headline sells the outcome, not the product. Join incentive: early access + founding-member pricing locked. Don't say the price yet — the withheld number is the hook. WEEK 2 — SCARCITY (make position mean something) Turn on the referral mechanic: your spot moves up per referral, and show people their number. A waitlist where position is visible and movable is the one that goes viral; a static list just sits. "You're #847. Three referrals moves you into the first-access group." WEEK 3 — PROOF (warm the list) Behind-the-scenes, a real screenshot, a founder note. The list is cooling by now — this is the re-engagement beat. One email that reminds them why they joined and shows the thing is real. WEEK 4 — THE TIER REVEAL (convert the top) Now name the founding price, and cap it. "First 200 off the list get [price], locked forever." Scarcity becomes concrete. Top-of-list gets a private link before anyone else. WEEK 5 — URGENCY (the deadline is real) Countdown to launch. Early-access group gets in 48h before public. This is the beat that converts warm interest into day-one users. WEEK 6 — LAUNCH (sequence the doors) Day -2 early-access group (your most-referred, most-engaged) Day 0 full list Day +1 public Staggering protects the launch AND rewards the people who worked the referral loop — they got in first, exactly as promised. THE NUMBER THAT PREDICTS LAUNCH Referral rate in week 2. Under 15% of signups referring means the incentive or the product promise is soft — fix it in week 3, before the list cools past saving. Want the week-1 landing page copy, with the withheld-price hook?
About this skill
Your waitlist has hundreds of names, but you don't know how many will buy, what to send them before doors open, or how to create urgency without faking it. This skill starts from your revenue goal and works backward to the number of signups you need. It then plans every step from the first signup to cart close, including the checkpoints that tell you to adjust before it's too late.
What it does
- Works backward from revenue to buyers to required signups, using low, base, and high conversion scenarios, and flags when the goal doesn't fit your audience size
- Picks one scarcity lever that is actually true (cohort cap, founding price, bonus expiry, or invite waves) and says how to enforce it
- Plans the warm-up between signup and launch so the list doesn't go cold, including a survey whose answers become your sales copy
- Gives the waitlist a real early-access advantage, then schedules the public cart window and the emails around it
- Sets go or adjust checkpoints and rescue moves that don't involve discounting or extending the deadline
- Plans follow-up for people who didn't buy, so they become your next launch's warmest list
What you get
A one-page launch plan with the signup math, a dated phase calendar, the scarcity lever and how it's enforced, a table of every email and post with its goal, checkpoints, and a plan for non-buyers. If you only need one piece, such as the email sequence or the math, it gives you just that piece.
Best for
Creators, course builders, indie software makers, and small product teams selling a course, cohort, template, app beta, or physical product through a waitlist. Also useful if a past waitlist launch had lots of signups and few sales and you want to know why.

description: Plans a waitlist launch from signup to cart close. It works backward from the revenue goal to the number of signups needed, measures buying intent rather than headcount, picks one real scarcity lever, schedules a waitlist-only early-access window before the public cart, and sets go or adjust checkpoints plus follow-up for non-buyers. Use when the user says "plan my waitlist launch", "how many signups do I need", "I have 800 people on the waitlist, now what", "my waitlist isn't converting", "people signed up but nobody bought", "should I do founding member pricing", "write my cart open emails", "plan invite waves for our beta".
