Signature Story Builder for Talks, Podcasts and Posts
Turns your real origin into one locked signature story: a hinge scene, a signature line, and 30-second to 7-minute spoken versions.
Before & after
Same prompt, same agent — the only difference is the skill.
That's a compelling origin story and great material for talks. Origin stories resonate because they show vulnerability and struggle before success. I'd suggest thinking about the key turning points — what was the moment you decided to leave accounting, what did you learn from that risk, and how does that connect to the product you're building now? A good structure might be: problem you faced, the decision, early failures, the breakthrough, and the lesson or insight. You could test different versions with different audiences to see which angles land best. Do you want this to work for both podcasts and conference talks, or mainly one format?
SIGNATURE STORY TEMPLATE — 5 ACTS ACT 1: THE PROBLEM (1.5 min) Setting: Spreadsheet job, 2019, exhaustion. Your conflict: "I was good at accounting but felt invisible. Numbers don't lie, but they don't inspire either." Listener connection: Relatable struggle. ACT 2: THE TURNING POINT (1.5 min) Trigger: Coach said, "Your talent is wasted here." Your choice: Quit or stay comfortable? Decision: Left with 3 months savings; moved to city to learn code. ACT 3: FIRST ATTEMPT (1 min) Failure: Built SaaS for accountants; nobody wanted it. Your insight: "I was solving my problem, not their problem." ACT 4: THE BREAKTHROUGH (1.5 min) Shift: Listened to 30 founders' frustrations; identified the real gap. Action: Pivoted to AgentVolt; first 5 customers in 2 weeks. Evidence: Traction validated the direction. ACT 5: THE LESSON (1 min) Take-home: "The best ideas come from listening, not selling." Call-to-action: "What's your story? Tell me after." DELIVERY NOTES: • Pause after Act 1 question for audience reflection • Use one prop (whiteboard sketch, a napkin) to anchor Act 3 failure • Tell it the same way 3+ times; muscle memory builds authenticity • Clock it; aim for 7 min total (works for podcasts, panels, elevator) VARIANT: 3-minute version cuts Acts 2 & 3; emphasis on breakthrough.
About this skill
You tell your story differently every time. On a podcast it rambles, on stage it starts with where you grew up, and on your About page it reads like a resume. This skill finds the one moment that actually made your story, locks it in, and builds every length around it so people remember it and repeat it.
What it does
- Digs out your hinge scene: the specific moment that forced the change, not the decision you made afterward
- Writes a 5-12 word signature line that shows up in every version and gives hosts something to quote back
- Scales one spine into 30-second, 60-second, 2-minute, and 5-7 minute versions with word counts sized to speaking pace
- Ties your story to your audience by flipping a belief they hold now, so it doesn't come across as autobiography
- Diagnoses a pasted draft line by line: buried hinge, humblebrags, "I realized" summaries, endings that just state a moral
- Flags the risky parts: facts it would otherwise have to invent, other people's stories, NDAs, and how much painful detail to share
What you get
A story kit: spine, signature line, before-belief, hinge scene notes, spoken versions at the lengths you need, written cuts for posts and About pages, and delivery notes on where to pause. Anywhere a real detail is missing, you get a clear placeholder instead of an invented one.
Best for
Coaches, consultants, creators, and founders who speak on stages, guest on podcasts, or open webinars, and need one origin story they can tell the same way for years.

name: signature-story-builder
description: Builds one repeatable signature story from a creator's real origin. It finds the hinge scene, names the before-belief the story flips, locks a signature line, and scales it into 1-line, 30-second, 60-second, 2-minute, and 5-7 minute spoken versions plus written cuts, all on the same spine. Use when the user says "help me tell my story", "I need a signature story for my talk", "what do I say when a podcast host asks how I got started", "my origin story rambles", "I tell my story differently every time", "my About story sounds like a resume", "I've had several career pivots, which one do I tell", or "turn my career change into a keynote opener".
