Pricing is one of the most important levers for profitability and revenue. You'll want to think about value metrics — what customers are paying for — and then tier your pricing so different segments pay different amounts. Common value metrics are seats, usage, data volume, or features. You could go with a simple good-better-best three-tier approach, or usage-based pricing if your costs scale with customer usage. Looking at your competitors helps you understand the market, but you should price based on value, not just what others charge. What's the most compelling metric of value for your customers — the thing that scales with their usage or benefit?

PRICING TIER ARCHITECTURE

VALUE METRIC: Seats + Monthly API calls
→ Primary lever: User seats (DevOps team size)
→ Secondary lever: API call volume (integrations, automation intensity)
→ Positioning: Pay for what your team grows into, not all features

TIER 1: STARTER ($99/month)
• Seats: Up to 3 users
• API calls: 10,000/month
• Features: Dashboard, basic reporting, email support
• Best for: Early-stage teams testing the platform
• Target margin: 70%

TIER 2: PROFESSIONAL ($499/month)
• Seats: Up to 10 users
• API calls: 100,000/month
• Features: Advanced reporting, webhooks, API docs, Slack integration
• Best for: Growing teams automating workflows
• Target margin: 75%

TIER 3: ENTERPRISE (custom quote)
• Seats: Unlimited
• API calls: 1M+/month
• Features: SSO, custom integrations, dedicated support, SLA
• Best for: Enterprise buyers, high-compliance needs
• Target margin: 80%

GO-TO-MARKET PRICING STRATEGY
→ OFFER: Launch with 50% discount for first 100 annual customers (net $50/month on Starter)
→ ANCHOR: Price Starter at $99 so Professional looks reasonable at $499
→ UPSELL: 85% of customers start Starter, upgrade within 6 months
→ PAYBACK: After CAC of $300, LTV target is $2400 (5x multiplier)

FINANCIAL MODELING
Year 1 target: 150 customers @ avg $250/month = $450K ARR
Year 2 target: 500 customers @ avg $380/month = $2.28M ARR
Unit economics: CAC $200, LTV $3000, payback 8 weeks
