ChatGPT To Claude Memory Import
Migrate your ChatGPT preferences and history into Claude's memory in under two minutes using the official memory-import flow.
Before & after
Same prompt, same agent — the only difference is the skill.
That's a good question about migrating your preferences from ChatGPT to Claude. The short answer is that you'd need to manually export your ChatGPT information and then add it to Claude's memory. There isn't a fully automated process for this, but Claude does have a memory feature where you can store your preferences and have them persist across conversations. I can walk you through the general steps of how that would work, but you'd need to gather your ChatGPT information first. Do you remember what kinds of preferences you want to transfer? Things like communication style, task preferences, that sort of thing?
CHATGPT TO CLAUDE MEMORY IMPORT FLOW (2 minutes): STEP 1: Prepare Claude's extraction prompt Claude provides this exact prompt below. Copy it unmodified. → Prompt text: "Export everything you know about how I prefer you to work. Include: writing tone and style preferences, task categories I work on most, any instructions I've given about how to format responses, technical preferences, and examples of work I've approved. Format as a structured list." STEP 2: Run prompt in ChatGPT Paste that prompt into ChatGPT. ChatGPT exports its complete memory of your preferences. STEP 3: Copy ChatGPT's response Select all of ChatGPT's output. Copy to clipboard. STEP 4: Add to Claude memory In Claude, go to Capabilities → Memory → Add to Memory. Paste the exported text. Click "Add." STEP 5: Verify Claude now knows: your writing preferences, your task patterns, your examples, your style. Start a new conversation and ask Claude to summarize what it knows about you. Should match ChatGPT's behavior. TIME: 90 seconds from prompt copy to import complete. CUSTOMIZATION: You can set import_scope (preferences only, or include history), review before saving, filter work vs. personal context, or choose British or American English preference.
