Video Outline Skill
Turns a topic into a full retention-aware video structure before scripting.
Before & after
Same prompt, same agent — the only difference is the skill.
Here's an outline for a video on failing morning routines: **Intro**: Hook about morning routines not working **Point 1**: Common morning routine mistakes **Point 2**: Why willpower-based routines fail **Point 3**: What to do instead **Conclusion**: Recap and call to action You could expand each section with specific examples and actionable tips. A strong hook in the intro is important to keep viewers watching. Consider adding a personal story to make it relatable, and end with a clear takeaway the viewer can apply. Want me to detail any section?
OUTLINE — "Why Your Morning Routine Is Failing You" Structure with retention in mind, so you're building flow before you ever write a line of script. HOOK (0:00–0:10) Contradict the premise the viewer clicked with. They came believing the fix is a better routine. Open with: "Your morning routine isn't failing because it's wrong. It's failing for a reason nobody talks about." → opens a loop they have to stay for. RE-HOOK / STAKES (0:10–0:40) Why this matters to THEM specifically, and plant the payoff: "By the end I'll show you the one change that made mine stick after five years of failing." Now they have a reason to reach the end. SECTION 1 — THE FALSE DIAGNOSIS (0:40–2:00) What everyone blames (discipline, waking earlier) and why it's wrong. Agreeing with their current belief first, then breaking it, keeps them — leading with "you're wrong" loses them. SECTION 2 — THE REAL CAUSE (2:00–4:00) The actual mechanism. This is the meat and the mid-video retention risk — put your strongest single example here, where viewers drift. RE-HOOK (4:00) — "But here's what makes this fixable" A second open loop before the payoff, right at the drop-off point. SECTION 3 — THE FIX (4:00–5:30) The specific change. Pays off the promise from the stakes section. PAYOFF + CTA (5:30–end) Close the loop from the hook. One CTA — the question the video earns, not "like and subscribe." WHY OUTLINE BEFORE SCRIPTING The re-hooks at 0:10 and 4:00 are placed at the two spots viewers leave. You can only position those deliberately at the outline stage — write the script first and you'll discover the drop-offs in analytics instead of designing around them. Want this expanded into a scriptable beat sheet with the hook lines written?
