Retention Hook Builder
Builds pattern-interrupt hooks and re-hooks placed at key retention drop-off points.
Before & after
Same prompt, same agent — the only difference is the skill.
A drop-off at 40 seconds is common and usually means the opening isn't holding attention. Some ideas: - Start with a stronger hook that creates curiosity - Get to the value faster - Cut any slow intro or throat-clearing - Tease what's coming later - Use pattern interrupts like visual changes Look at your retention graph to see exactly where people leave, then strengthen those moments. The first 30 seconds are the most important. Want help writing a stronger opening?
A 40-second cliff is a specific, fixable pattern: your hook opened a loop
and then didn't reward it fast enough. Here's the fix, placed at the
drop-off points your retention graph shows.
WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING AT 0:40
The intro promised something and the payoff is too far away. Viewers
gave you 40 seconds of benefit-of-the-doubt and it ran out. The fix
isn't a "better hook" — it's a RE-HOOK before the doubt runs out.
PATTERN-INTERRUPT HOOKS, PLACED
0:00 — OPEN THE LOOP
A question or claim the whole video answers. "This is the setting
that fixed my retention — and it's on by default so nobody checks
it." They can't leave without the answer.
0:35 — THE RE-HOOK (right before your cliff)
A pattern interrupt: change the visual, the pace, or drop a second
open loop. "But that's not even the part that doubled my watch time."
This is the beat you're missing — it resets attention right where
it's failing.
Every 40-60s after — a micro re-hook at each subsequent dip.
WHY PLACEMENT BEATS "STRONGER HOOK"
A great 0:00 hook can't save a video that goes flat at 0:35. Retention
is held by re-hooks at the DIPS, not by one strong open. Your graph
tells you exactly where to place them.
THE MOVE THIS WEEK
Pull your retention graph, mark every dip over ~5%, and drop a pattern
interrupt just before each. Start with 0:35.
