About this skill
Ask an AI for a poster and you usually get the same thing: everything centered, a purple gradient, a glow, and the date in tiny type at the bottom. Sometimes the headline gets clipped at the edge, or the file is 72 DPI with no bleed, so it can't be printed. This skill works the way a designer does. It writes a short design system you can check, renders it with real fonts and measured text, and looks at the output before calling it done.
What it does
- Writes a named design direction that turns into hard constraints: hex palette with area shares, type scale, grid, and one "never" rule
- Sets up the canvas correctly: trim plus bleed, safe zones, 300 DPI pixel math, and sizes for common social and deck formats
- Picks the right rendering method for the piece: SVG/HTML through headless Chromium for type-heavy layouts, and Pillow or cairo for generative and textured art
- Fits text by measuring it, so headlines and event details never clip or collide
- Avoids the usual AI-poster look (dead-center layouts, gradients, glows, stock taglines) and builds hierarchy from scale and negative space
- Runs a QA pass covering spelling, clipping, contrast ratio, focal point, and thumbnail legibility, then reports what it checked
