Prompt“How do we get our content cited by ChatGPT and AI Overviews?”
Beforegeneric AI agent
Getting cited by AI answer engines is an emerging discipline. Here are some approaches:

- Create clear, factual, well-structured content
- Answer specific questions directly
- Use headers and structured data so content is easy to parse
- Build authority and trust signals
- Keep information accurate and up to date

AI models tend to surface content that clearly and authoritatively answers a question. Formatting content in a Q&A structure and being the clearest source on a topic can help.

This is still evolving, so best practices are shifting. Traditional SEO still matters as a foundation.

What topics are you trying to be cited for?
Afterwith Get Your Page Cited in AI Answers
This is GEO/AEO — getting surfaced by answer engines, which rank
differently from Google. The shift: traditional SEO optimizes to be
FOUND; this optimizes to be QUOTED. Different mechanics.

WHY AI ANSWERS PICK A SOURCE
An answer engine extracts a passage it can lift verbatim with
confidence. So the unit of optimization isn't the page — it's the
extractable claim. Content that ranks #1 on Google but buries its answer
in paragraph six gets skipped by an engine that wanted a clean sentence.

WHAT ACTUALLY MOVES CITATION RATE
  1. ANSWER-FIRST STRUCTURE
Lead each section with the direct answer in one or two sentences,
THEN elaborate. The engine quotes the lead; the reader keeps
reading. Burying the answer forfeits both.
  2. SELF-CONTAINED CLAIMS
Each key sentence must stand alone without its paragraph. "It takes
14 days" is quotable; "as mentioned above, it takes that long"
isn't — the engine can't lift a sentence that references context
     it won't include.
  3. SPECIFICITY AND FRESHNESS
Numbers, dates, named specifics. Engines prefer "as of 2026, X" to
"recently, X" — and they surface concrete claims over hedged ones.
  4. STRUCTURED, PARSEABLE FORMAT
Real headers matching real questions, lists, tables. The easier to
     parse, the easier to extract.

THE MEASUREMENT PROBLEM — name it up front
You can't see AI citations in Search Console. Track it by actually
querying ChatGPT / AI Overviews for your target questions and logging
whether you're cited and how you're phrased. Manual, but it's the only
real signal, and it tells you which phrasing got lifted.

DON'T ABANDON CLASSIC SEO
Answer engines still lean on the same authority and crawlability
signals. GEO is a layer on top, not a replacement — a page that can't be
crawled can't be cited either.

Give me three questions you want to be the cited answer for and I'll
restructure a page answer-first around them.

About this skill

Your page ranks fine, but when someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI Overview the exact question it answers, a competitor or a Reddit thread gets quoted instead. Generic GEO advice has you rewrite prose. That does nothing if the right crawler is blocked, your prices load in JavaScript, or the query is only ever answered from third-party reviews. This skill finds which of those is your actual blocker and fixes it.

What it does

  • Checks access per engine against the bot that feeds it, for example OAI-SearchBot vs GPTBot, Googlebot vs Google-Extended, and flags CDN/WAF blocks and JS-only content
  • Rewrites your opening into a 40-60 word answer-first statement that an engine can quote as-is
  • Splits the page into self-contained passages with question-shaped headings, since engines retrieve chunks, not whole pages
  • Maps the sub-questions AI search fans out to and shows which ones your page leaves for competitors
  • Replaces vague claims with checkable specifics and fills gaps with placeholders instead of invented numbers
  • Builds a prompt panel so you can measure whether each engine cites, mentions, or ignores you before and after

What you get

A layer-by-layer diagnosis table that names one main blocker. You also get rewritten opening and passages ready to paste, a list of covered and missing sub-questions, and a prompt panel for baseline and re-test.

Best for

SEO leads, content marketers, and SaaS or e-commerce teams whose key pages rank in classic search but are absent from AI-generated answers.

description: Diagnoses why a specific page is not cited by ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews/AI Mode, Perplexity, Claude, or Copilot. It works through four layers in order: crawler access, passage retrieval, answer extractability, and off-site corroboration. Then it rewrites the page to be retrievable and quotable. Use when the user says "why doesn't ChatGPT cite our page", "get us into AI Overviews", "optimize this article for GEO", "we rank #1 but AI answers cite competitors", "Perplexity keeps citing a Reddit thread instead of us", "should I block GPTBot", "make this page LLM-friendly", or "our traffic dropped since AI Overviews".
